Ningaloo Niño/Niña in CMIP6 Models: Characteristics, Mechanisms, and Climate Impacts

چکیده

Abstract As a dominant climate mode of the southeast Indian Ocean, Ningaloo Niño/Niña has paramount impacts on regional and marine ecosystems. Using outputs from latest phase Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP6), we have systematically evaluated simulation in state‐of‐the‐art coupled models. Eighteen out 28 CMIP6 models well reproduce spatial pattern seasonality Niño/Niña, whereas simulated amplitudes show large spread across Main processes oceanic atmospheric El Niño‐Southern Oscillation teleconnections coastal Bjerknes feedback are successfully captured by most models, but their uncertainties responsible for inter‐model difference amplitude. The also skillful reproducing Niño/Niña. Compared to Phase 5, larger fraction which provides good hope projecting its future changes.

The Vulnerability, Impacts, Adaptation and Climate Services Advisory Board (VIACS AB v1.0) contribution to CMIP6

This paper describes the motivation for the creation of the Vulnerability, Impacts, Adaptation and Climate Services (VIACS) Advisory Board for the Sixth Phase of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP6), its initial activities, and its plans to serve as a bridge between climate change applications experts and climate modelers. The climate change application community comprises research...

Climate Variability Impacts on Land Use and Livelihoods in Drylands

This edited volume is devoted to the examination of the implications of the inevitable changes wrought by global change on the welfare and livelihoods of tens of millions of people who live in dryland regions. Global change is more than just climate change and the ramifications of changing trade patterns (geopolitical and economic aspects), the shift to the market economy, demographic factors (...

North Atlantic Climate Variability: Phenomena, Impacts and Mechanisms

Variability of the North Atlantic Oscillation and the Tropical Atlantic dominate the climate of the North Atlantic sector, the underlying ocean and surrounding continents on interannual to decadal time scales. Here we review these phenomena, their climatic impacts and our present state of understanding of their underlying cause. Copyright © 2001 Royal Meteorological Society.

Precipitation Characteristics in Eighteen Coupled Climate Models

Monthly and 3-hourly precipitation data from twentieth-century climate simulations by the newest generation of 18 coupled climate system models are analyzed and compared with available observations. The characteristics examined include the mean spatial patterns, intraseasonal-to-interannual and ENSO-related variability, convective versus stratiform precipitation ratio, precipitation frequency a...

Climate Change, Climate Modes, and Climate Impacts

■ Abstract Variability of the atmospheric and oceanic circulations in the earth system gives rise to an array of naturally occurring dynamical modes. Instead of being spatially independent or spatially uniform, climate variability in different parts of the globe is orchestrated by one or a combination of several climate modes, and global changes take place with a distinctive spatial pattern res...
